About the Award: Seed Awards help researchers develop compelling and innovative ideas that may go on to form part of larger grant applications.

Eligibility: To be eligible, candidates must:

  • apply for a Seed Award as an individual or as part of a group.
  • have a PhD or the equivalent professional experience.
  • be based at an eligible host organisation in the UK, Republic of Ireland or a low- or middle-income country (although collaborators can be based elsewhere).

Selection Criteria: Proposals that aim to develop new approaches or collaborations in the humanities and social sciences and enrich our understanding of human and animal health will be selected.
Activities can include:
  • pilot and scoping studies
  • planning sessions
  • meetings of collaborative networks.

Number of Awardees: Several

Value of Fellowship: £25,000 to £50,000. Support can include:
research or teaching buy-out leave
research expenses, including costs for a researcher or consultant
conference and meeting costs

Duration of Fellowship: 6 to 12 months
